Day 181-Cape Town Startup Grind

Cape Town

Startup grind is a global community with monthly networking events to help connect, educate, and inspire entrepreneurs and startups. Wow am I ever glad I went! From the food, drinks, and speakers, it really was a great event.

Paul Simon, the founder of YDE and Uber Flavor, was the main speaker of the evening and he sure was inspiring! He is definitely not your typical entrepreneur. He was basically loafing around Europe in his early twenties and given an ultimatum by his parents – either work, go back to school, or move out. He came up with the idea of Young Designers Emporium, a platform for young local designers, on the spot at a family dinner when asked what he is going to do. With a $1000 loan from his father, he grew a multi-million dollar company and a business model that has now been sold to Truworths. He admitted to being naive and lazy, which worked in his favor at the time, but when you find something that makes you come alive, that is when your potential comes to play.

“Be confident in your potential and aware of your inexperience” -Jon Lovett
