Day 158-African Winter

Cape Town

[Stormy Day at Bantry Bay]

When you hear the words “Africa” and “winter” together, it sounds like an oxymoron. I wish this was a joke, but in Cape Town it really isn’t. After being born in Winnipeg, growing up in Vancouver, and living in Toronto, you would think that all those years of dealing with snow storms would increase my resistance to chilly weather, but this gusty winter wind is no joke!

The infamous South Easterly winds, known as the Cape Doctor, turns into North West winds as a cold front from the Atlantic rolls in. That’s when you know winter has arrived. In the same day, it can pour down with rain, followed by gusty winds that sweep you off your feet, then all of a sudden it’s sunny. Capetonians like to talk about the weather and now I see why.

This video says it all!

“”Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” – Anthony J. D’Angelo
