[Lifetrap Filtration: We See What We Want, Not What We Are]
Just a thought..
“Lifetrap” or schema: a repeated pattern of thought and cognition.
A paradigm for how you interpret the world.
We see what we want.
We see what we want because we can perceive it, interpret it, and make sense of it. It gives us a sense of familiarity and comfort. We become invested in our way of thinking, resisting change as our identity becomes associated with our paradigm.
Not who we are.
We fear that the alteration of our paradigm will ultimately cause us to lose our sense of self, feeling lost and confused. The avoidance of anxiety forces us to maintain these thought patterns, holding onto our established identity and paradigm. It gives us a sense of belonging, as well as an understanding of how we interpret and perceive the world around us.
What makes you who you are? How much of that is predetermined by how you perceive the world?
“Study the science of art. Study the art of science. Develop your senses. Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.” -Leonardo DaVinci
