Day 84-Indonesia

Balian Beach

[Celebrating Nyepi at Podok Pitaya]

Today we celebrated Nyepi, Bali’s New Year’s day of silence. A day of reflection. We decided to participate in the Hindu tradition so we spent the day in silence, fasting, and reflecting. The streets are empty in Bali as most people spend their time at home. Lights are also not permitted so candles were given to us as a source of light. It was a great cultural experience and much needed in our busy lives.

The art of stillness considers the unexpected adventure of staying put and reveals a counterintuitive truth: The more ways we have to connect, the more we seem desperate to unplug” -Pico Iyer
