Day 66-Vietnam

Nha Trang

[Cham Po Nagar Tower]

Upon arrival, I immediately noticed the influence of Russian tourists in Nha Trang. Stores, signs, and menus are all written in Russian! Not that I have anything against Russians, but tourism has definitely taken a toll on this city as the Vietnamese culture seems almost non-existent at first glance.

In search of some local influence, I dug out my sneakers and went for a run over the bridge. Not a single other tourist in sight! The ancient temple complex, Po Nagar, is also situated here on Cù Lao Mountain. Many locals visit this ritual site to pray and bring offerings, such as fruits and flowers. A subtle reminder of my family as this is a custom we do often. This is the Vietnamese experience I was looking for!
