[Wat Preah Prom Rath]
A lot can be learned by a country’s past. The Kingdom of Cambodia is no different.
Race, power, and genocide were all part of Cambodia’s recent history. From 1975 to 1979, Pol Pot led the Khmer Rouge Regime and killed off 1.7 million (21-25% of the population) in attempt to create a classless peasant society. During this time, religion and any form of civil society was banned. Once ruled by several Hindi kings, Cambodia is now predominately 95% Buddhist.
Given it’s history and economical development, with issues such as poverty, hunger, and corruption, this country is filled with friendly people who welcome you with open arms.
Not to do any evil, to cultivate good, to purify one’s mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas [Verse:183]
